Science Outreaching Activities

Different activities are carried out to develop the interest in chemistry, chemical engineering, environment, science, etc. among kids, teenagers or general public. examples of these activities are: conferences, lab classes in the university or in theis schools, competitions, etc. Besides, the collaboration with teachers at schools levels from infant to high school students is always encouraged.

Experiences in the laboratory for the young people that in a near future will be “university students” are structured in response to different levels of difficulty in order to make it attractive and to encourage these students to become a future “engineer” or “scientist”.

Furthermore, every year some members of the group participate at the night of investigators on the last Friday of September, the pint of science, scientific coffee, science festival, theatre monologues, etc organized by the University of Cantabria to divulgate the science among the adult and young people.  All of the participations have been very successful and satisfying.

One of the members of the group (Alberto Coz) collaborates in a national group of scientists and professional researchers whose aim is to make science communication appealing for general audiences (http://bigvanciencia.com/eng/big-van-scientists-on-wheels) and he has a blog to show science related with chemistry: tales and other stories of chemistry, engineering and waste. Take a look and enjoy:

Two members of the group (Javier Viguri and Gema Ruiz) participate in a research program (PiMetAn) to find out the role of penguins in the biogeochemical cycles of in the southern ocean (Antarctica). One of the objective of this project is to circulates the tasks involved in the project. Follow the project, watch the video () and enjoy it:
