Tamara Llano Astuy

Received the M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering in 2009, the post degree in Process and Chemical Engineering “Sustainable Production and Consumption” in 2010, and the B.S. degree in 2011. She has worked as a researcher doing the Ph.D. in the GER group of the Chemistry and Process & Resources Engineering Department in collaboration with SNIACE factory. She is Assistant Professor since 2016 at the University of Cantabria in the School of Industrial and Telecommunication Engineering.

Her research interests focus on pulping chemistry and technology; lignocellulosic and marine biomass (algae and fishbones) characterization, hydrolysis, and fractionation; waste and industrial effluents conversion in biofuels and value-added chemical by-products for valorisation purposes. She obtained her PhD with international mention in 2016 titled “Developments in a sulphite pulping process for the valorisation of its carbohydrate resources within the biorefinery concept” with the extraordinary award of the university.

She has done research stays (one predoctoral and two postdoctoral) at the University of Athens, University of Reykjavik and Barna enterprise. She has supervised 12 Master theses, she is co-author of 12 scientific papers, she has participated in 36 international congress. Furthermore, she has collaborated as Principal Investigator (PI) or as Team Member (TM) in 10 Research & Development projects at International, European, National and regional level.

Recibió el título de Ingeniería Química en 2009, el título de Máster en Ingeniería Química y de Procesos “Producción y Consumo Sostenible”en 2010, y el título de Ingeniero Técnico Industrial en 2011. Ha trabajado como investigadora y doctoranda en el grupo GER del Departamento de Quimica e Ingeniería de Procesos y Recursos (QuIPRe) en colaboración con Sniace. Actualmente es Profesora Ayudante Doctor desde 2016 en la Escuela Técnica Industrial de Ingenieros Industriales y de Telecomunicación de la UC.

Sus intereses en investigación se centran en las áreas de tecnología y química del proceso de pasteado al sulfito; caracterización, hidrólisis, fraccionamiento y detoxificación de biomasa lignocelulósica y biomasa marina (algas); conversión y valorización de residuos y efluentes industriales a biocombustibles y subproductos químicos de valor añadido.Obtuvo el título de Doctor por la Universidad de Cantabria, con mención internacional en 2016 con la tesis titulada “Developments in a sulphite pulping process for the valorisation of its carbohydrate resources within the biorefinery concept” habiendo obtenido el premio extraordinario de doctorado otorgado por la Universidad de Cantabria.

Ha realizado estancias de investigación (1 predoctoral y 2 postdoctorales) en la Universidad de Atenas, la Universidad de Reykjavik y la empresa BARNA. Ha supervisado 12 proyectos fin de grado y máster, es co-autora de 12 artículos científicos, y ha participado en 36 congresos internacionales. Además ha colaborado como Investigadora Principal (IP) o como miembro del equipo investigador en 10 proyectos de I+D+i de carácter internacional, europeo, nacional y regional.
