New Book Chapter on Green and e-NH3 Published

We are pleased to announce the publication of the book chapter “Decentralized Production of Sustainable Small-Scale Ammonia”, published by De Gruyter as part of the book Hydrogen Production, Storage and Utilization Technologies: Ammonia and Methane Production DOI: 10.1515/9783111635064-009

This work was carried out within the ThinkInAzul programme and was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, with funding from the European Union – NextGenerationEU (PRTR-C17.I1), and by the Regional Government of Cantabria, under Project C17.I01 – Complementary Plan for Marine Sciences.

The chapter presents the latest advances in sustainable ammonia production, covering both conventional ammonia synthesis and emerging nitrogen reduction technologies for the production of e-NH₃.

Drawing on the experience gained from numerous e-NH₃ projects, the authors discuss the key features of decentralized small-scale production systems, with particular emphasis on offshore manufacturing. The chapter also highlights the growing role of green ammonia as a marine fuel, an energy carrier, and a sustainable fertilizer feedstock for rural communities.

In addition, the publication examines how green ammonia can contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while addressing the main technological, economic, and deployment challenges associated with its large-scale adoption.
